What is a World Cup draft game?

A World Cup draft game lets you build your dream World Cup squad one pick at a time. In Gaffa XI you spin a wheel that lands on a real nation from a real World Cup since 1966 — Brazil 1970, Argentina 1986, France 1998, Spain 2010, all the way to World Cup 2026. From that squad you draft a single player into your XI, then spin again. Eleven picks later you've named your all-time team and can simulate a knockout tournament to see how far they go.

It's part squad builder, part nostalgia, part bar-room debate. The wheel decides which squads are on the table — your job is to find the legends inside them.

How the World Cup wheel works

  1. Spin. The wheel lands on a nation + World Cup combo (e.g. Italy 1982, Germany 2014).
  2. Draft. Pick one player from that exact squad. They slot into your XI in their best position.
  3. Repeat ×11. Spin and draft until keeper, defence, midfield and attack are all filled.
  4. Simulate. Your XI plays a group stage and knockout against the legends of every era. Lift the trophy if you can.

What is a World Cup draft game?

Which World Cups and squads are on the wheel?
Every World Cup from 1966 to 2026 — sixteen tournaments, 76+ nations, 6,000+ squad selections. Pelé's Brazil, Cruyff's Dutch, Maradona's '86, the '98 French, the golden Germans and the latest 2026 squads all sit on the wheel together.
Can I mix players from different World Cups?
That's the whole point. Prime Pelé from 1970 can line up next to Messi from 2022 and Yashin from '66. As long as you get them out of the wheel, they're eligible for your XI.
